From time to time we all find ourselves complaining that we are tired of what’s happening in our nation and we badly need a change.
There are several things happening around us that cause us to be crying for a change. Some main issues that have us concerned can be described as hypocrisy, covetousness, laziness, crime and corruption. These are just a few things that we can quickly identify.
Let me use this opportunity to inform us that simply identifying the problems but taking no action to solve such will not get us anywhere. Far too often we tend to expend our energy pointing fingers – blaming others for the slackness that is happening around us when most of the times, those who are often quick to point fingers are guilty in some way. Let’s not just sit at ease and turn a blind eye to what’s happening around us.
Far too long we tend to wait for someone else to find a way to come up with the solution to the problems. It’s about time we stop and take self-examination. Let us first find out if we are a part of the problem and if we are, vow to make a fresh start, turn a new page and seek to be transformed. If we are not a part of the problem, the onus is then on us to find out what we can do to be an agent of change. Each day we should seek to find out what can be done and how we can find ways to enhance the welfare of our nation.
My fellow Jamaicans, it’s time we aim to utilise the strength God has given us in a positive way. It takes great energy to plot and to carry out evil acts. Instead of envying someone for what they have, why not find meaningful ways to work towards achieving something for yourself? As a nation, we need to get rid of this “get rich quick” mentality. Everyone wants to reach the top but no one wants to work hard to get there. Laziness is too rampant in this nation. “Let off a thing” seems to be the motto of the day as everywhere we turn, we hear strong and healthy people uttering such words. Every nook and cranny in Jamaica is packed with idlers.
We are all aware of the alarming rate of crime and corruption in this nation and we keep asking the question – “what is the real cause?”
I’m of the view that laziness; crime and corruption walk hand-in-hand. If we are to get rid of, or even lessen the level of crime and corruption, we first need to find a way to stem the rapid growth of laziness across the nation.
We all agree that it’s time for a change but far too long we’ve been waiting on our political leaders to bring about that change. Let me remind you that the politicians are mere humans and not magicians. There’s no magic wand to wave and bring about an instant change. May I beseech you therefore to commence the process of change by starting to work on the person in the mirror? Let us all vow to become an agent of change and the vehicle by which such change can be taken across the length and breadth of Jamaica.
Can you make a difference? – Yes You Can!
I dare to be different – what about you?

“If one has no confidence in self they will have no confidence in nation building”. This is how many of us as Jamaicans are behaving, we seem to forget that our own action has serious repercussions on Jamaica as a developing country, We see this thing showing up from the womb to the tomb, values and attitudes are gone with the wind. It is hard to see someone wearing a uniform be it Nurses, Police Officers, Soldiers and other so called up standing individual and believe that they are maintaining the good ole values and attitude that was was maintained long ago. Too often we hear in subsequent news cast of them cheating, stealing and lieing on top of it this leaves nothing for our youngsters to look at and emulate as a positive attitude to live by.
Gone where the days when youngster new their place and they knew that they could hang out on the corners with adults, they need to be socializing with children in their age group. In today's day and age its a different thing which is happening once a girl feel sey “all fruits ripe, their should be a grape for you and your cousin to come enjoy”. The school boy dem feel sey dem must look a big woman and some of the big woman feel sey she must try out with a young boy and let him catch him practice, what practice is that I still wondering and asking? That is why our society is the way it is. I cannot see how a man/woman whose age come off calender and could be many of these youngsters parents find time to have a relationship with them. We not thinking or level of reasoning whose than many of those under developed countries. Jamaica has everything at its finger tips and we find it hard to make Jamaica the great country it ought to be in this region but instead of us going forward we continue to regress. Look and little island like Trinidad & Tobago having a large stake in Jamaica land we love. As my granny would a sey “waste not want not”, but we never follow that saying, we just wallow in everything and use and abuse everything we have it come in like when a man see a woman but he no have no use for her so him just use her and abuse her.
Better must come and better will come if the younger generation take stock “have confidence in self, then they will have even greater confidence in nation building” need I say more. Marcus Garvey said “Up you mighty race! You can accomplish what you will”.
